Last word

Last word…

You could have been a house with doors shut closed
Windows hidden behind a blue flowered linen
Covered with stubborn rain stains

I could have compromised with just your walls
Sat on plain dirt
And woven a rug for the two of us
A colorful rug just like your memories
That would smile and gather kindness
A color
Just like your hand, the one that never paired with mine
A hand
That cut the hanging fingers off my painting
You never liked it abstract
I never liked it framed…

Neither of us could
Leaving, demands no excuse, darling!
We can still be a road
That travelers come to great
And leave without having to say goodbye
